Parent story: getting Meera ready for school

15 September 2026 · 3 min read

Young child in Chennai sitting in a group circle-time activity with a therapist

Shared with the family's permission. Names have been changed at their request.

Breaking 'ready' into skills

Meera could learn. What she could not yet do was sit through circle time, follow an instruction given to a group of eight, or manage her bag and snack alone. Those became the goals.

Practising the real thing

Our school modelling sessions look like a classroom on purpose: same seating, same transitions, same snack routine. Support was withdrawn a little each week rather than all at once.

The first full day

She started school the following June and managed a full day by week three. Her mother's summary: "She was not a different child. She had just practised the day before it happened."
