Parent story: Arjun's first words at three and a half

Shared with the family's permission. Names have been changed at their request.
Where they started
At three, Arjun had no clear words and would lead his parents by the hand to what he wanted. Frustration showed up as biting and floor-level meltdowns most evenings.
What changed first
Not speech: communication. Picture cards gave him a way to ask within two weeks, and the biting dropped noticeably before his first word appeared. His mother says that was the moment she stopped feeling helpless.
Where they are now
Eleven months later Arjun uses short spoken sentences, still reaching for pictures when he is tired. His parents practise for ten minutes a day, in the car, on the way to school.
"Nobody promised us a timeline," his father told us. "They showed us what to do on Tuesday. Then the next Tuesday. That is what got us here."
